Dawn Davis Lim Fibre Art-wearable art-slow fashion--Spinning & Weaving Workshops

A slow way of working with fibre — shaped by hand, guided by intention, and held in story.
🌿 About Dawn
There is a quiet kind of work that begins with the hands.
Drawing fibre slowly, feeling the texture of wool, cotton, and alpaca, and allowing each thread to take its time.
I am a fibre artist and workshop facilitator based in regional Victoria, working with natural fibres from their raw beginnings through to hand-spun and handwoven textiles. My practice centres on slow, mindful making — where the process matters just as much as the finished piece.
A slower way of making
What I offer is not rushed, and not mass-produced.
My work is grounded in:
This creates textiles that carry not only form, but story — shaped through touch, patience, and time.
Who this is for
This space is for those who feel drawn to making in a quieter way.
You might be:
You do not need experience — only a willingness to begin.
What I offer
My work comes together through both making and sharing:
What others have experienced
There is something special that happens when people sit with fibre for the first time — a slowing, a noticing, a quiet sense of satisfaction.
Here are a few reflections from those who have joined workshops:
“I didn’t expect how calming it would be. The way Dawn teaches gives you time to really understand what your hands are doing.”
“I came in knowing nothing about spinning — and left feeling confident and inspired. It was such a gentle, supportive space to learn.”
“There was no pressure, just a lovely rhythm to the day. I felt completely absorbed in the process.”
“It wasn’t just about learning a skill — it felt like reconnecting with something slower and more meaningful.”
These shared moments are at the heart of the work — learning together, at a pace that allows space for curiosity and discovery.
A practice of learning
I do not see fibre work as something to be mastered and finished.
It is an ongoing conversation.
Each thread brings something unexpected — a small resistance, a change in tension, a moment that asks for patience. And in those moments, the work becomes as much about the person making as the material itself.
My approach to teaching reflects this: grounded in experience, open in spirit, and shared rather than prescribed.
A sense of place
My work is shaped by where I live and make — in regional Victoria, where there is space to slow down, observe, and work with intention.
Workshops are offered locally, including sessions connected with the Rare Trades Centre and surrounding creative communities.
